Email Campaigns With POD

Reach Out With PPC | Email Campaigns

Though a lot of people say this is a dead duck, don't believe that for a minute, not yet anyway.

PPC and Email lists are and always will be one of the most effective ways to drive customers to your sites or products.

Organic traffic is getting harder to come by year after year, still very possible, but harder to actually get a lot quickly, and not as easy or fast to harvest email addresses.

There are tons of tricks to do this with landing pages funnels etc.

Email lists are still one of the most effective for campaigns bringing return customers, and being the most drilled down and targetted way to identify possible new customers.

I used to try and run a few (not too successfully), years ago, much has changed, and I was just looking over a few things to check it, so I thought I would write this up.

Let's take a look...

Set Up

First thing is to get an AdWords account. Easy peasy just sign up.

I am no pro at this as things have really changed a lot since I have actually run a Google AdWords campaign, years as a matter of fact.

Go through the documentation and definitely look up some stuff by Google on youtube.

Don't jump, I'm still looking through the stuff wondering how to start out.

BING

Don't forget good old dinosaur Bing, the big three search engines for North America are still Google, Yahoo and Bing

According to Statista.com :
Bing currently generates a monthly search volume of around 12 billion
Ad bids are lower, while competition is not as high as it is on Google, and that's still a whole ton of searches per day if you look at it correctly.

Both Google and Bing, give you credits and incentives.

Landing Pages

That has changed a bit, but there was always the old ugly pitch it pages, which were just landing pages.

Though things have refined, its still the same idea there, not to sell your product right away, but with a bit of a twist.

Almost GURUISH eh.

The main purpose is actually to capture the email addresses, this drills down your targetted audience. This is a broad audience now, as its just the start of the funnel.

If you have an email list, you have a list of people interested in the product you are selling.

From there you push to your store, links or another website you have, like say RedBubble.

Give To Recieve

Just be sure that you offer something in return.

An email addy is a personal request from you to the person you ate asking. Some take it more seriously than others, but you are asking for a personal connection, try to keep things personal!

Offer value as stated news magazines, information etc, DO NOT go for the sell right away, this does work sometimes, but I personally dump these emails without reading.

Offer ideas or advice, anything to do with the intent of the email, which really is to subtly sell.

A good one is to offer a free e-book, and don't worry you don't have to write one, there are a ton out there for free that you can use, just make sure that you are allowed to modify links, so they go to your offer, if any.

Do You Need A Store

Actually, as it was in the past it is now, no, you can run a successful email campaign with just landing pages. And Push an affiliate link eventually, like say Merch By Amazon.

After your first response email, where you either ask confirmation or some other action, you narrow it still.

Then by the second and third emails, you have your audience. I wouldn't go to three here, if we are pushing POD it will be to links or sites like RB, Teespring etc.

And you have an audience, you can, if you blog or, send a news magazine or something of value with subtle new offers or designs to go look at.

Like somewhere in the article or ...but not at the start. New Fall fashions or designs for Valentines day etc or offers. something like that I think.

By The way, the stores on the PODS like Redbubble and Teespring etc are free, no cost to you at all.

What Kind Of Emails Do I Send To My List

I would vary these depending on what you are selling right.

This all can be applied to any product by the way, including drop shippers.

If your a dog niche or firefighters, police etc the mails would focus on that subject, anything that might interest the audience.

If your a general store just pick a product and feature it that month, or every two weeks, don't get crazy and send emails constantly, that becomes spam, it's much better to have a customer want to read your stuff because you don't send much of, but enough they don't forget you.

You feature it by writing and informational email like; "New dog leashes made for crazy Shih Tzu that barks like mad."

And somewhere in there, you advertise your new shirt, mugs or poster or... And any links or affiliate offers (which can also be Merch By Amazon) you just need an associates(affiliate) account with Amazon.

How Do I Capture The Emails

There is a ton of great software for this stuff. MailChimp is cool and free for the first 2000 subscribers. This software is web-based and just great for building and maintaining your subscriber list.

You can automate and create free landing pages with mail chimp.

Wordpress is a great way to build landing pages as well and has many email related plugins that are free or subscription based after a certain amount of subscribers.

You can also create popups, slide-ins etc if you have a site to collect emails as well with most of these apps.

Pinterest

Technically you could loop your PPC campaigns through Pinterest as well. To a particular board or product, which in turn links back through to Amazon or your Blog, web site what have you.

There are a few Merchtrupenuers, HA my new GURU term, that only use Pinterest as their catapult to Merch By Amazon listings.

This works as well with Redbubble, and Etsy is pretty big on Pinterest as well. Though personally with Etsy, I would run my ads straight to my shop there, plus you get Adword credits or used to, not sure on that now.

I'm not sure how Pinterest ads are, I have heard some scary Facebook like stories.

Be Compliant

With all issues concerning privacy, you must be compliant with the laws of your country.

Don't spam and don't redirect to some porn site if your selling t-shirts, that will get you reported as a spammer which is an offence under the law in most countries now.

Unless your a scum spammer crook now, and you wouldn't be reading this then.

State your privacy or any other policies on the email (footer or on the landing page) be direct, honest and transparent.

If you have links from Amazon or any affiliate links, this should be clearly stated and visible.

Quick Word On A Funnel

If your not to sure or can't picture what a funnel is or does:

Think Of A Walmart

The minute you walk in, you're in the funnel. Sales, signs, displays, in every category, starting to see a pattern? Niches.

You move through the categories with upsells screaming at you left right and centre. You get what you need, maybe an extra thing as an afterthought. Then go.

Check out, its a physical funnel, starting at the top with all kinds of items, like candy, or gum, chips and ending at the register with all kinds of items that may complement each other or just are pure impulse buys.

Flashlights batteries, you get the idea, that's a funnel and its principle is the same idea, once in the funnel, its all about upsells, selling more items.

A ton of thought and research has gone into these funnels, so have a good look next time, it's really an eye opener ;)

Hopefully, you see the value of email lists. Probably one of the most underutilized tools that the beginning marketer (because you are a marketer) never thinks about seriously.

Lately in merch that has become more common, though at the beginning of the merch by amazon guru stampede there was only a couple of veteran marketers using this approach.

This is used by any number of online marketers from Big Box stores to the guy or gal slogging a new ebook.

It's effective and it works, that's one of the Gurus biggest tools. I would say in Merch there are only a couple that really understands the power and how to use it effectively ( Nope no shout out on that ;)
